The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the members is the governing body of the SAFE consortium. The AGM decides on the general policy of the consortium and oversees the management of the consortium by the Executive Board. The AGM is organised on or before or April 30th each year. All scientists at SAFE member institutes are invited to join the Annual General Meeting. The SAFE consortium is run by its members!

At the Annual General Meeting, the members of SAFE elect an Executive Board (EB) of at least 4 and no more than 6 members, and a President and Vice-President of the Executive Board. The EB is responsible for the management of the affairs of the consortium between the Annual General Meetings. The Executive Board appoints a Secretary General and a Scientific Secretary and, if necessary, others to take charge of the day-to-day management of the consortium.

The SAFE consortium has an office in Brussels, but most activities of the consortium are carried out and co-ordinated by the members from their home organisations.
