  • SAFE consortium 2017 AGM Part 2: Dec 14

    The 2017 Annual General Meeting, Part 2 of the SAFE consortium will take place by Teleconference on THURSDAY 14 DECEMBER 2017 at 13H.

    The SAFE AGM generally brings together one or two representatives from each member institute. SAFE activities in the previous year will be reviewed and SAFE plans for 2018 discussed. Decisions are made by consensus or majority vote. You can find the agenda and minutes of the 2017 AGM and of previous AGMs on the SAFE Members Only pages, Past Events.

    The SAFE Annual General Meeting  is taking place in two parts this year:

    Part 1 was on Thursday 4 May by teleconference (Lync). Here, the 2016 budget was closed and the 2017 budget approved. Financial documents were sent to all confirmed participants and questions invited by email. The agenda and minutes are available here. (You must be logged in as a SAFE member to successfully follow this link.)

    Part 2 on Thursday 14 December by teleconference (Lync).

    The SAFE statutes specify that the General Meeting of the Members is the supreme governing body of the SAFE consortium. Come and have your voice included!

  • SAFE speakers at EFSA Risk Assessment Research Assembly. 7 Feb 2018

    The President of the SAFE consortium Executive Board, Begoña Pérez Villarreal of AZTI, and past SAFE consortium Secretary General, past president of the SAFE Executive Board and current Executive Board member, Oddur M. Gunnarsson of Matis Ltd. are invited speakers at the 2018 EFSA Event on Risk Assessment taking place in Utrecht (NL) on 7 February 2018.

    This event will bring together research funders, policy/decision makers and leading food safety organisations.

    The aim of the event is to stimulate new partnerships in food safety risk assessment research to safeguard public health and highlight the importance of public funding.

  • SAFE Special Issue in TIFS. Spring 2018

    SAFE consortium members will publish a Special Issue of Trends in Food Science &Technology in ealry 2018.

    Keeping Food Safety on the Agenda for 15 Years: The SAFE Consortium

    There are five food safety themes in the Special Issue, each led by a SAFE member:

    1. The Circular Bioeconomy, by Matis Ltd in Iceland
    2. Safe Nutrients, by IBA in Romania
    3. Emerging Microbial Threats, by CNR-DiSBA in Italy
    4. Chemical Hazards, by AZTI in Spain
    5. Risk Communication, by Nofima in Norway

    The release EVENT will take place in Brussels in spring 2018. Stay tuned for further information. 



     

  • SAFE Executive Board Meetings 2017- 16 NOVEMBER

    The upcoming 2017 meetings of the SAFE consortium Executive Board will be by teleconference on

    Thursday 16 November at 13H CET

    Thursday 14 December at 13H CET: SAFE Annual General Meeting of Members, Part 2

    Log in as a SAFE member to download the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE EB meetings. Also available are the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE Member Meetings, including the Annual General Meetings. Once logged in, these documents become visible as a separate article in Past Events.

    If your institution is a SAFE member but you don't have a User Name and Password - send an email to Katherine Flynn with your 3 food safety interests and you will be registered.

The SAFE consortium maintains an office in Brussels, but most of the activities of the consortium are carried out and co-ordinated by the office staff, the SAFE Executive Board and the SAFE members from their home locations.

SAFE Office Staff:

  • Dr. Hrönn Ólína Jörundsdóttir, Secretary General
  • Dr. Katherine Flynn, Scientific Secretary

 

The main tasks of the consortium co-ordinated by the SAFE Office are:

-Develop science-based position papers for European and national food safety authorities referring to food safety issues of general importance,

-Strengthen scientists’ ability to form, maintain and work in suitable networks and to profit from opportunities offered by these networks, e.g. developing common initiatives in food safety sciences.

-Organise scientific congresses, conferences, seminars and workshops, participate in events organised by others, and exchange food safety research systems’ knowledge among interested parties

-Develop and promote interdisciplinary research projects and partnerships in the Framework Programmes of the European Commission, national governments and food authorities.

-Provide assistance in partner search, in the organisation of the projects and in writing management paragraphs

-Maintain an effective interaction with representatives of the European and national research administration, and the European Food Safety authorities.

-Provide information of general interest about SAFE and about programmes and opportunities to its members on a regular basis.
