SAFE at the EFSA Conference:14-16 Oct 2015
EFSA held its 2nd Scientific Conference
in MILAN ITALY on 14-16 October 2015 in the context of World EXPO 2015
The conference included outstanding invited presentations, several hundred posters and over 900 participants.
The SAFE consortium presented a poster,
"Keeping food safety challenges on current and futrue agendas: The European Association for Food Safety, SAFE consortium" in the session Expertise for the Future.
SAFE AGM 2015. 25 June
Nine representatives of SAFE consortium member institutes attended the SAFE Annual General Meeting on THURSDAY 25 JUNE 2015 at the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) building in Brussels.
The agenda included a presentation from DG Research and Innovation on H2020 Work Programmes and the role for food safety. Additionally, SAFE members discussed immediate and long term plans for the SAFE consortium. On Friday 26 June, the Bio-Based Industries Public-Private Partnership Joint Undertaking hosted an INFORMATION DAY in Brussels attended by several SAFE members. Visit their website here.

Food Safety Implications of Climate Change and Climate Variability: 24-25 Sept 2014

SAFE co-organised this interesting and timely event together with the Joint Research Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change – FACCE-JPI , with the contribution of Romanian SAFE member Institutul de Bioresurse Alimentare – IBA , and the support of the Romanian Government.
The Workshop was the second exploratory workshop within the 2014-2015 Implementation Plan of the FACCE-JPI Strategic Research Agenda and took place at the IBA headquarters in Bucharest on 24 and 25 September 2014.

SAFE in Food Outbreak Forum, 24 Sept 2014
The SAFE consortium participated in a Food Outbreak Roundtable organised by Food Production Daily.com and Food Quality News.com.
The core of the discussion was weighing the answer to this question, 'What's the best way to minimize risk of exposure from foodborne illness outbreaks?' The Roundtable was first broadcast on September 24 and continues to be available on demand. Link here to listen to the timely 1 hour discussion and to pose questions to the participants.
Representing SAFE was the Scientific Secretary, Dr. Katherine Flynn, Ph.D.. She was joined by Food Safety experts from EFSA, the US FDA and academia.
SAFE at Global Food Safety Summit, 9&10 Sept 2014
SAFE EVENT 2014: Food Integrity: Beyond Authenticity and Safety, 17 Sept
On 17 SEPTEMBER 2014 the SAFE consortium organised its annual Event and annual General Member's Meeting at the Hotel Leopold in Brussels.
This year the SAFE Event was Food Integrity: Beyond Authenticity and Safety, including food adulteration, food fraud, country of origin questions and confirmation of genuine foods. Representatives from industry, consumer groups and regulators shared ideas with research scientists from SAFE member institutes at this timely event.

The PLANTY 2013 Workshop: Sustainable Approaches to Reduce & Valorise Food Waste: A Global Perspective
took place 28 November 2013 in Girona Spain.

This 4 day Congress took place at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale in Novara Italy from 18 to 21 June 2013. The programme featured 5 keynote lectures by international experts in the field as well as short oral presentations and poster contributions.

SAFE Member Event: First International Course in Dry Cured Meat Products
Dry curing of meats is a method that has been used for millenia. This course was organized for professionals working with meats. It provided a comprehensive overview, including a significant amount of practical work, regarding all aspects related to manufacture of fermented sausages and dry-cured ham.
10 - 14 June 2013 at IRTA Center in Monells (Girona) Spain.
