institute of food bioresources (IBA) was founded in 2000 and is the only food research institute belonging to the ministry of agriculture, forestry and rural development. its main goal is to improve food quality and nutrition. IBA is divided into 4 departmens, including the food quality control department where teams work on microbiology, physico-chemical questions and packaging.

azti-tecnalia Is a non-profit private foundation committed to the social and economical development of the marine environment and food sector. it has a team of 180 professionals, and had a turnover in 2006 of 16 million euro. azti-tecnalia as a research and innovation centre is structured in two business divisions: marine research and food research, the latter aimed at improving the quality, productivity and innovation of food products and processes.

irta -is a state-owned company of the Catalan Government created in 1985. Its activities deal with research and technology transfer in agriculture, aquaculture and the agrifood industry.
